10k for SGP for 3 yoe is good. Likely you are young, you can get your own condo, it will cost you from 2.5k. You can also get a very nice master bedroom in a condo in a very nice flat from 1.7k. Depends what you are looking for. If you prefer staying with friends.
Transportation is cheap, if you wanna Grab every time, it will cost you 1k per month.
Nights out and drinks cost more, a night out clubbing would cost you from 100 sgd onwards (usually a drink in a nice place is around 20 sgd)
For 300 sgd you can have a return flight to Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines etc and for 400 sgd more spend a nice weekend on the beach.

FYI: really depends on teams. I know there's a bunch of teams that need to work with China, but mine for example doesn't at all and we speak 100% English. If you/OP is concerned about the language aspect, best to clarify with the direct tech lead of the team you're joining. All the best!

120k for 3 yoe is pretty good in SG if you compare with average salary in tech. Whether it's a good offer or not depends on company and how much they pay in general.

    • Thanks for the infos. I had problems finding good sources for salary data in SG, levels seems to be too skewed by FAANG salaries. Any recommendations?

Try Glassdoor, that might have more data but again not much reliable.

  • That’s a solid offer for your YoE. The tech scene, and data in particular, here is nothing to write home about except very few companies (Shopee/ByteDance/Grab/Gojek) so if you want to experience Asian culture (*cough* WLB *cough*) for a short 3-5 years then by all means come to Singapore but if career growth is what matters most to you, go somewhere else.

"My parents live in SG. Dad makes 400K as a single earner and lives an average life. Singapore is expensive as hell man, it’s called the billionaire’s playground for a reason.

I make 120K in the USA, and my wife makes 80k - we drive a better car, live in a better house, travel in first class and just generally have a far better lifestyle than my dad who has a family TC of double ours even though my mom doesn’t work. Not because she isn’t qualified but because SG won’t allow spouses of work visa holders to work - something to consider if you’re moving with a partner).

Couple in SG with 400K USD is a worse lifestyle than a couple in Chicago with 200KUSD. I even pay far more taxes than him since SG has a flat tax of around 20%. I’m closer to 40%.

I would only recommend doing a short term expat contract (3-5 yrs) with everything paid for - like housing, car, travel home, food, fuel Etc.

Just my humble opinion, feel free to do your own research. Good luck!

P.S. the cost of a regular 35K car in the USA costs 200K in SG and fuel is extremely expensive. Then Ofcourse there’s insane traffic and tolls to pay. Look it up ;)"

That is a very reasonable offer. SG has low tax. Take home after tax and rental is probably around 70k sgd, which is very liveable. Stay away from the central areas if you want to save on rental. Commute would be a little worse but nothing intolerable. Cars are expensive but really far from a necessity with SG's world class public transportation.
