People in US on H1B or L1. Do you feel safe remaining there in the long run? What are your retirement plans? Is there an undue fear/uncertainty in your minds, that you can be asked to go back? Can’t it be abused by your employer, because they know? (I’m Indian, and that’s the only thing holding me back from considering the US to work)
Learn to embrace uncertainty, always have a backup plan, find good lawyers, gain confidence in your job. It’s never easy but it’s an adventure you will be able to write books about.
I’m mostly worried that I might miss out my home country’s opportunities.

Of course, there is uncertainty, and of course some employers take advantage of it. Having said that, this does not matter much if the job/employer is good
Mostly abuse by existing employers... No promotions in the name of filing amendment... You don't get what you love to do... Your manager knows that you won't leave easily... they leverage it to the core
Don't miss out on life while waiting for immigration. It's not human to be stuck with a major constraint like that. You're not free if this is what you feel. You're better off putting your efforts where you have control over your life and career. You have to be tremendously lucky to have an employer who won't exploit your situation.
Well said.
Been an H1 for 10 years now. Yes I worry a bit, especially with trump . The green caed process is a pain. But renewal has gotten a little bit better with the drop box service. America is home to me. It provided me the perfect balance of career and personal growth. I am mid 30s . I could go back to india and prob never have to work . But thats not something i want. I mean the going back part. I come from a family with no money. There is nothing to go back to. I had opportunities back home too. I worked in india for 3 years, good living, had an admission to ISB. But chose the US. I see now that things are not always great here. I worry about my parents. There is a real price you pay. I plan to work 10-15 years here and retire or do something not related to my primary field. If all goes well i would want to continue staying here. The main reason is my work life balance and things I can do outside of work.
If you worry about parents, think about going back. It frees you up more than you would realize. You can do most things you do here and more in Bangalore or Hyderabad or other cities. You could come back again if you're still looking to retire in the US or go anywhere else. There are no shackles bigger than the visa requirement or even citizenship if you want to ever live anywhere else.
It may come to that. Although i dont see staying in the US as shackles of any kind. Being born poor was limiting , i feel more liberated now than before. Yes i could do all the things i love in india but they would prove a fair bit harder. I am into hiking, which I can do from my house. I do a fair bit of cycling, which require a lot of road biking, which would be hard in india. Mountain biking would be impossible. And there is also money for the amount worked . I worked 30-40 hours now for good pay. But yes, there will come a time when i will have to deal with issues surrounding my parents.
I have a green card and will not stay here long term. Not worth it tax wise.
Not knowing how much a medical treatment costs, especially as you get older, is what's giving second thoughts. No amount of $ would be enough if you don't know how much you'll need for Healthcare. In most other countries, you can get a price up front. That is huge, as one gets up in age.
