Ex-Amazonians who moved out of Amazon to non-FANGs, do you miss Brazil, Pipelines, Apollo, and other tools in your new workplace? To be honest I miss them, didn’t think much about their convenience while I was at Amzn. If not, do you think tools at your new work are better?
I'm still at Amazon and switched to native aws on all my work around a year ago and I don't miss Apollo. At all. Pipelines is decent and Brazil is hard af to replace in the Amazon Eco system but I don't think I'd miss it if it were gone
YES. You don't even understand.
Can you share what these tools do that make them hard to replace?
Full CD
The A in fang is for apple. Amazon is shit
Why so? Did you work at Amazon before? In comparison to FB and G probably. For the rest, not sure.
Yes I miss them all. I also miss wiki and TT. Not so much sim though.
I am moving to a startup. Will update in a few weeks
Can someone tell us what is Brazil tool and why it is awesome?
It’s like Maven
It does more than maven including tie into git and do some decent workspace setup. I still prefer other tools. It's hard to give a specific parallel to Brazil, apollo, and pipelines as the lines are blurred due to their homegrown nature. They work really well together if you use them as prescribed. Unfortunately, any deviation from "The Amazon Way" is strongly discouraged by difficulty in getting them working with the aforementioned tools.
Where are you going?
Apollo / Brazil / pipelines is such a pain to setup... I couldn’t even get flask running properly on the stupid infrastructure
In Kindle, we used Jenkins and our own pipeline tools: Brazil et al was irrelevant to our Android and iOS shop. I'm currently building some pretty sweet cloud app and infrastructure management tools over at Expedia. Since I never had the benefit of using that toolset, hard to compare.
Wasn’t it a downgrade to go to Expedia from Amazon? How it feels?
