To whoever who needs to hear this

The most important thing is to enjoy what you do. This happens when you target learning to do new things. Targeting promotions (within a time period) leads to Anxiety. If you continue learning, promotions are inevitable. So target the right thing. In 30-40 year career, you wouldn't regret not getting fast promotions, but you'd regret not enjoying your work.

I've talked to multiple people. Money while important, to most of them is secondary. In tech we get paid a lot compared to rest of the world. Finding the right job where you find meaning and motivation to do your best is more important.

This is all sorts of bad advice right up there with Satya’s ‘pay raise karma’ FUBAR.

Makes sense OP. You seem like you are at least around mid to late 30s, maybe older, and I don't mean in a bad way. I'm that age group. Gen Z doesn't necessarily think like you do and companies have to get used to them as long as it is the employee's market. And I smiled when I read 30-40 year career... I was like whaaaaaat?! I don't think anyone these days wants to work for that long to sustain finances; for pure joy, maybe yes.

I get the race to FIRE. I understand generational gap too. But honestly so many of these GenZ folks talk about anxiety to me during coaching sessions and it always is root caused to worrying about their next promotion. I'm just saying don't worry about something (promotion) that's not completely in your control. I don't think this point changes no matter if I'm boomer or someone else is GenZ.
