I'd have some faith in Harry Shum as a leader. I think the org is still very young. Needs more time to cook.

http://dawn.cs.stanford.edu/benchmark/ numbers don’t lie. Who actually see Microsoft having a place in the famous machine learning benchmark? P.S. none of the people holding a top spot in those competitions actually used MLaaS. All these people actually installed their own
open source Machine Learning toolstack and customized their own algorithms.

Azure AI products suck! If you want to pay to use some open source, free Machine Learning library on Azure, go for it! I was asked to evaluate which of their ML offering to use for a web app with some AI compabilities. The first Jupyter Notebook demo that I ran on Azure ML Studio had an error on the first execution trying to import some custom Azure python library. And Azure Machine Learning NEVER got installed properly on my MacBook, even though it is just built on top of Conda (which installed fine on my laptop). Their AI products claim to do a thousand things and only deliver parts that work due to the efforts of the open source community. Their sales reps (from consulting companies like Cognizant / Avant) are the worst. They just try to butter up the less technical managers and get them to use the largely unusable toolstack which are mostly in alpha or beta stages. Run far away from Microsoft!
