Hi all, I need your advice regarding my career in biotec industry. Here is my career after phd: 1. Postdoc 5 yrs. 2. Startup 1.5 yrs.(company got acquired) 3. Mid size company 1.5 yrs. Laid off as company decided to terminate my program. By the end of this year, I have to move to the other state due to the family issue. I may have 6 more mths next year but need to move anyway. And here are the options that I have right now : 1. Join major player in current location for newly launched and state of the art project. But I have to move again at the end of this year. I could extend my job searching to new location while I am working on here and I could get better offer in location 2. 2. Join mid size company in new location. Work and reputations are less impressive, but no need to worry about frequent job searching. It would be greatly appreciated if you share any perspectives regarding this situation.

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
I personally would go with option 1 as that could open more doors in the future. Also curious if you made good money from the acquisition? I've never been through an acquisition so not sure how it pans out for most.
Thank you for sharing your perspectives. I hope that is the case but I am a bit worried about my resume as my position has been already changed two time in 3 yrs ( I was forced though. ). Could you kindly share a bit more for this? For acquisition, unfortunately, I was the employee of 30th and I don't have much stock. And the company was not in a good shape when they got acquired so it seems like almost no one got tons of money.
I think 2 would look less bad compared to 1 even if you end up leaving that mid-sized company in 1 year. Major players care more about your experience in other major players and if you are not sticking long in a major player, then it looks bad. Small companies you can always explain as business not going in the right direction, or no career growth prospects for your job.
