I’m so annoyed that everyone wants to do a streaming service. I understand why but it makes users mad. For an example, I won’t get NBCUniversal. It’s just dumb. I only have HBO Go during game of thrones. I guarantee you this will increase pirating. Disney+ is genius. Netflix has a good backing. Hulu is good too (owned by Disney now). CBS is starting one and I hear a bunch of networks want to do their own too. When will they realize that consumers will be priced out if everyone has their own thing? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/02/26/cost-of-popular-streaming-sites-like-netflix-amazon-prime-and-hulu.html
Welcome to why cable did the bundle. It works in your favor. Either way you'll pay the same monthly fee. However do you want more content or less...
I literally watched only a couple channels when I had cable. I’m fine with my 3 streaming services. What I liked was being able to see Friends whenever I wanted to watch.
This is when I say I've had enough and just watch it on some random streaming site.
Going back to piracy.
This has indeed increased piracy already. Latest data shows that piracy is on the rise again after steady decline over the past decade.
That will pass. Currently studios are overoptimistic and think they will make a lot by rolling out their “Netflix”. The trick is - they won’t. There will not be enough customers to cover the cost of running the service + loss of licensing revenue. What is especially interesting is that show creators usually get a revenue share so studios are not only losing money but also souring relationship with the creators.
Says someone from the company who just dropped 100 million just to stream “Friends” for a single year. 😂 Do you know why Netflix paid so much for a single year of Friends? Because Netflix original content is a river of shit, about 95% of no one cares about. People subscribe to Netflix for the non Netflix content. Once Netflix loses all of their content from Disney, WarnerMedia, and now likely NBCUniversal, they will be bleeding customers with nothing promising on the horizon.
HBO. Random Netflix shows are getting GoT numbers. Check our investors letter.
Most of these streaming services won't get enough audiences to survive. Not unlike the search engine war. There may be a few winners as content is exclusive. So far, only Netflix is a lock. None of the others are profitable, not even close.
Netflix must be scared shitless of losing all of their content. There is a reason why they paid 100 million just to stream “Friends” for a single year. Come next year, once Disney, WarnerMedia, and NBCUniversal release their streaming services, Netflix’s catalog will be nothing but a river of shitty original content no one cares about.
People may watch Friends to fill the gap, but it's originals that sign users up and keep them around.
Every streaming service combined costs less than a decent sized cable TV package, and people still pay for that shit.
I’ve noticed it to be the elderly folks who don’t want to stream or get streaming devices. They’re very comfortable with the remote and flipping through channels.
Ever heard of MVPD? That’s meant to solve this exact problem.
