Too much pressure. What should I do

Recently switched job, no longer at Twitter (level and TC reasons). Started a new job at a new company. Feel a lot of pressure. (First time switching a job). Feel that I’m losing motivation. Not really the most ideal job that I want. Not in the team that I want to work at and not interested in current team. Was afraid to hurt relationship of coworkers and was afraid to switch teams. Didn’t have the courage to suck it up to endure this one year in order to get all the stocks that were promised (actually a pretty good amount). Am afraid that I cannot make the one year milestone. Having too much pressure. What should I do. Actually I’ve lost motivation to a lot of things, even to work. I really wish there is someone around to help and support me. I feel alone all the time and have a lot of pressure. It was not easy for me to gain what I have today and I really want to find a good way. Reason of switching is really about level and TC. Not sure whether I made the right decision. Anyway here I am. Thank you for the comments and suggestions. I’m already working towards switching team, communicating with manager/skip manager. My hesitation and worry is that if switching does not work, it hurts the relationship with current manager and team, which i really don’t want.

First, you should talk to your manager (or skip level if they’re not helpful) about what you are facing. Maybe they don’t know about these problems and might be able to make changes that will help you. Working for startups (I’m making an assumption here) can be very stressful especially because there no processes and systems in place to prevent burnout. If you can still switch teams, try that. If you have done well at the company so far, they would try to keep you by allowing you to move rather than seeing you go.

If you are working at a company with healthy culture, this should not affect the relationship. You are trying to find something that interests you. Try to have 1x1 conversations with the leadership. Talking about this with more people will make things difficult.

What does it mean?

Never give up, believe you have what it takes, it’s okay to lose motivation, happens to everyone at some point, read something positive everyday, fight your situation.

Negociate less pressure in your contract at the next company

As first time switcher you are in a new territory after a long time. Relax a bit think that things that made you comfortable before are not the same. I had the similar experience before, I left the company lost lot of money. With hind sight, I now think I should have spoken to higher ups or switch to different team.

Are you complaining about 6 digit white collar office job? Try construction for $15 an hour.

Or try living in ... any other country

Agree that we have one the best jobs in the world. But it can be better so aren't we allowed to complain too? Are the construction workers allowed to complain only? We all can get better and receive better mate, complaining and finding solutions is what makes us humans 🙂

Find something that interests you and work on that. It doesn’t have to be at work only. You would be surprised how much satisfaction is gained by just 5-10 hours of very interesting work

Very good suggestion. I should do that. Thank you.

Why did you left Twitter in first place? Was it low quality work or low tc?

Twitter ask-help OP May 31, 2019

I thought Twitter pays competitive to market and wlb is good. This is new to me.

Yeah the pressure sucks. Stress hurts physically. I recommend picking up meditation. 15 min every morning. Helps you cope with the stress.
