Toxic teammate - how to handle?

I have a teammate who is pretty toxic. He wants to get promoted. So, he tries to make some of us look bad. He complains to our boss about us. He tries to make himself superior by making too many pointless comments on PR, asking a lot of questions about others projects in team meetings. Sometimes, I feel like he is pretending to be my manager. He joined from Infosys. I heard the culture there is pretty cut throat. Our team culture is pretty chill and relaxed. But, dealing with this guy has been pretty taxing. How can an introvert deal with this kind of toxic person?

Tell your manager to deal with him

My approach is to share less i.e. maintain distance or share more and act as if you buy his all exclusive attitude. I’ve seen this to work as it disarms them.

Treat him like the child that he is. At least for your own sanity. But you could also do the same to him by overblowing his mistakes. He will fuck up eventually. Edit: Coordinate with any friends you have there to do the same to him.

First step. Flatten his car tires. Second step. Remove the brakes from his vehicle Third step: steal his wife/gf

Don’t forget to gaslight him as well. Fuck with him in subtle ways, like rearranging the items on his desk slightly. Soon he will begin to question his sanity and have a full on mental breakdown.

That really sucks. Document everything, tell manager about it. If manager doesn’t do anything, leave because incompetent manager and crap teammate

I have experienced this before. Such people tend to be ass lickers. Manager will always support such toxic people and will blame you for not being a team player since you are bad mouthing a colleague. The toxic colleague is bad mouthing you but at the same time he is licking managers ass, so it is ok.

Remember that you are a small fish in an ocean. If he's garbage, his fate is predetermined. I recommend carving your own path, make yourself great. With that being said, sometimes people are so toxic they ruin the environment. If this is true, you aren't the only one to notice. If you are the only one to notice, you're the one who is wrong. Find out who else on your team is upset, bond with them, accomplish incredible things together, use your accomplishments as leverage to speak up, then together with your teammates, take the garbage out.

I would say share less and I don’t think we need to follow “I got you” principal with this asshole. I hope he gets to see this post and stops being a jerk. Do you mind to dm me about what team he is on so I can treat him the same way.

Next time when you chat with him in the team group chat and if he acts bonkers just type in the team chat to him ‘GTFO’ .
