How difficult is it to transfer to the Google NYC office from another satellite office as a L3? How about as a L4? Seems like it's a pretty large office, but I heard that they mainly take L5+ and maybe a few returning interns. I know "anything's possible if you're a high performer", etc, etc, but does anyone have rough statistics on how often L3/L4's have been able to successfully transfer to NYC compared to how often they fail and have to stay put?
You need to find a team that takes you in. How difficult is that? You figure it out
Right, but at Facebook it's well known that NYC teams prefer E5+ transfers and external hires and maybe a few transferring E4's. In contrast, FB Seattle teams will accept most levels so there is a difference in difficulty based on the office's needs and preferences. I'm wondering if teams at Google NYC are similar to FB in that regard.
Okay. I thought this was the Google channel and you're googler. There's internal job postings for positions in NYC. L4 should have no problem. L3 will have a more difficult time because teams want more experienced people. I think almost all positive will consider L4 L5. So if that's you, it actually shouldn't be that bad.
I believe Google NYC is very large, 5000+ engineers, should be very easy to transfer. But Google also has “12 month no transfer team” rule, so if your first team is not in NYC, then wait at least 1 year before transfer.
