Transition from data scientist to machine learning engineer

I am currently data scientist doing some ML work, mostly scripting and some product analytics. I want to move to ML engineering side, what steps can I take. I have MS in CS.

If you have a CS degree I feel like you can just ask to work on production code and in time you'll be hireable as a MLE.

Not sure if this would be a possibility at work. Is there any other way to get to production side coding apart from work

New job? I think most companies will just ask you leetcode to judge your engineering skills.

If you have a MS in CS why are you scripting and doing product analytics?

Oh I see. My advice would be to get a backend swe role. ML swe don’t really need to know much machine learning, what’s really important is very strong software development skills. Your experience so far seems like the basic understanding of ML is checked off. Now I’d apply to ML swe roles but also general backend swe jobs. Either path will get you out of scripting and likely more $$$ in long run.
