Hi blind, Wife graduated with a comp sci eng degree. Her 10+ year of career is built on customizing software tools like oracle Financial tools, anaplan, Microsoft share point etc. She works at one of the big corps which is dying slowly. She is excellent at her job but now realizing that there is not enough growth left in these software service based roles unless she travels to client locations. She wants to move back into core software engineering and I think she is very smart and capable of doing that but we need some structure in how to proceed forward. Going to school is not an option. We live in Bay Area and need two salaries. She already has a full time job right now but not sure how long will that last. And we have kids. We are ok to go into junior roles to begin with. Any ideas how to move foreword will be super helpful. Tc : 250k.
She should get her skills listed on her resume and get interviewing. You’re not going to know what you face exactly until you try it.
Thinking of the same thing . Want to transition out of service based roles to software engineering. I have been thinking of joining a boot camp. Some of them apparently help you build 3-4 apps, assist you in building a better Github profile and conduct mock interviews. They also have a hiring day where companies come in to hire junior programmers.Practicing Leet coding on the side would also help I guess.
Take some free online classes like at edx.org if she needs the brush-up, put lots of stuff on GitHub (like possibly the course work from those online classes), then apply for junior dev jobs or even internships.
