Plan to travel from seattle to vancouver by road. I am currently on h1b visa in USA and have a valid Canadian visa. Planning to take my personal car to canada. Any things i need to keep in mind?
Know what the specific job title is that's attached to your visa. One of my Canadian reports got stranded in Canada trying to return to the US after a trip because he told the border guard he was a "Program Manager" when the NAFTA designation was "Computer Systems Analyst." They yanked his visa right there at the border, and he had to take a forced 3 months off work while lawyers tried to sort it out.
Only true for TN visa not H1b- OP is likely on an H1 visa
It was TN, yes. I figured other visas might jave similar limitations.
Know how to convert from mi to k in your head (unless your car can switch)
Cannabis is legal in Washington state. Cannabis is legal in Canada at a federal level. Cannabis is illegal at/across the USA federal border. Do not take any cannabis products or remnants thereof across the border.
You can't take it across any borderline
You can move it freely across provincial borders within Canada. You can’t move it across state or federal lines in the USA.
Have your H1B pétition with you, at least the copy
Nothing to worry, I just did road trip from Seattle to Vancouver with family last week, everything was fine, enjoy! Don't forget to visit Capilano suspension bridge. And keep your approved petition as well along with Visa.
Anything which may have a seed is prohibited in and out. Clear your car before going. Your entire stuff excluding phones are subject to inspection either side. Have a safe trip. Enjoy the food and sight seeing in Vancouver. Take your work batch and insurance card with you.
I have heard you should avoid coming back into the US through Blaine and instead come back through Sumas. Apparently fewer problems at Sumas.
Eat some good food while you're there!
