An offer on the table for Sr Data Engineer role. Really liked the manager I talked to during the interview and there is opportunity to learn and grow but not sure if the role will lean more towards being technical. What's the company like to work for as an engineer? I'm trying to decide between Capital One or Conde Nast. TC is almost similar.

  • I worked there for 8 years. Incredible place to work, good WLB, tons of opportunity for lateral mobility. Big company that treats you like a person rather than a number. Would recommend to any friend considering it to go.

Can likely get more money elsewhere, which is why I ultimately left.

  • I worked very briefly at capital one as data engineer. I would say they are very good compared to any other bank. Most of their tech stack is either using latest technologies or moving to that.
    Was a great experience

Really nice people and good WLB at Capital One. What did they offer you?

  • I agree with most of the opinions here. Capital one is a decent company to work for. I have been working here for more than 6 years now.
You can learn and experiment with technologies if you are passionate. Not a great company for laid back people. Definitely a stepping stone for big tech company.

Gotcha. My offer is a contract to hire. Can you share some details about the benefits? I checked Levels.fyi but couldn't find anything on the bonus. What's the bonus percentage for a Software engineer/Data engineer position?
      Mar 13
    • Bonus is flat. Not percentage based. 8400 for strong, 12k for very strong and 16k for exceptional rating. Yeah most of the hires are now contract to hires. And base is 135k to 165k realistically.

  • Also they use open source tech where possible. Cannot speak for entire company as I briefly worked at their sf office

Gotcha, thanks for sharing that. Yeah that's one of the reasons the hiring manager had great feedback for me because of my AWS knowledge.

hgoL42 how long were you a contractor for? I think the contractor to hire is for 3 to 6 months so trying to see if during your time there, if you heard anything about getting the full time offer?
