A colleague of mine recently had his interview with Twilio Bangalore for Principal Engineer. Apparently they are offering only 35-48L base, no bonus and 145-185k$ stocks over 4 years. This seems like a low L5 offer instead of Principal Engineer. He had a 2 hour hackerrank test , a phone screen and 5 rounds in the virtual onsite. His coding round was taken by an EM and she didn't even have a SWE background (BI and ETL in a bodyshop). He rejected the offer and his glassdoor review was taken down as well. Quite appalling to hear this. I was under the impression that Twilio was one of the better companies! I was approached by a recruiter for a position at Bangalore and scheduled to have my first phone screen in a couple of weeks but now having second thoughts after hearing this. Anyone else had similar experience with twilio ? #twilio #bangalore
What's his yoe?
10-11 I think. He's an SDE 4.
Not sure about your colleague. But, as a Twilion, I can assure you that you won't regret joining. The standards are pretty high here (I can only speak about my team.) The stocks will get doubled every 6 months.
Lol ! As if you are thinking stock is like a rate on Fixed deposit
Lol
Yes titles are a bit inflated. But also don’t compare to FAANG, we are not on the same tier
That's actually pretty good salary. He you can take it or leave it. Just because a company gave what it's feel you are worth, doesn't mean they are evil. Go ahead an interview with other companies if you don't want to join us. I don't know we all feel so entitled.
Since OP is already at a better place who pays well in india, that is, Flipkart. This salary composition does not look that attractive. I feel.
@wcrossx Exactly. Not sure why @alscndj got triggered. I created this post to share Principal Engr interview and TC details for others' benefit and to get feedback if it would make sense for me to go through the process (EM role). Typically, PE and EM should be at similar level and if that is the comp range, then I won't even bother.
Looking for positions in India... Can someone refer me... BS+MS in CS...10 yeo ( Microsoft , Oracle, Twitter ) Currently SSE at Twitter
You in India? What is the TC breakup in Twitter?
I am in San Francisco... SSE here is 300K... India will be approx - 60-70lpa
I can't speak to the offer and the TC details, but I'm sorry to hear your colleague had a bad interview experience. Don't let that stop you from starting the process though, your experience might be different. Start the process, impress them, then nego your offer.
You won't enjoy working here, since you already started with negative thoughts. Better to not waste time.
You should check the Twilio s products first and make sure you like it. Personally I feel you might have more challenging work at Flipkart.
Twilio India needs to take a page from Twitter India and fire most of the employees. That's what Twitter did in India when the employees of a company they acquired didn't meet their engineering standards. Now twtr building india team again.
+1
I was under the impression that Twilio is setting up their Bangalore / India office from scratch ? The colleague told me that interviewers were from Pacific time zone and it happened in the evening over two days.
