Layoffs at Twitter are fair but the way Elon handled it wasn’t. 50% cut will break the barriers and make other prominent CEOs think they can also try RIF and maintain lean teams. The fundamental is all startups, recent IPOs and FAANG must have started thinking about sustainability, profit and not growth for next 2 years. If growth matters less, it will impact Product managers, Sales, SDEs working on new initiatives, Data Scientists/Engineers. The safe bet is to stay in profitable teams rather than cost centres. buckle up for big depression in 2023. Save this post.
Love musk
in what way is it fair to ignore the severance package that the merger agreement required him to give?
Depression seems extreme, I don't think we're in for depression. Recession, yes. Also, a 50% cut is insane and IMO part of why advertisers pulled out. I can't imagine 50% of Twitter was sitting on their asses not working
There is zero way Twitter can run at 50% staff…this was an idiotic move.
people writing 100 lines of code a month. an intern does that in similar places
He literally gutted 75% of a department that Twitters top($) advertisers had told him the day before were important if they were to continue to feel confident advertising on Twitter 😂😂
Thinking that CEOs will follow Elon Musk’s precedent is like thinking CEOs will follow Jeffrey Duhmer’s precedent.
Its just a ploy to scare off people who arent serious at twitter.
CEOs are already very aware that they can RIF and create lean teams. Many started before Elon
Most ceos are not Elon and can't implement it as they will get whacked by their boards if they try to do that. It's incredible difficult to get it right and carries a huge risk for their careers and coming across as a bad move for their personal reputation. CEO's just react to economy conditions. It all depends on how the market will behave
