Edit: Thanks all who weighed in! This post really blew up. Decided to go with Twitter for now. Coinbase said their offer was good for 6 months so might follow up with them if Twitter isn’t a fit. Best of luck to everyone who is interviewing! Also for those who asked— CB interviews are very similar to Facebook / Meta (Product Sense + Execution + Leadership). Prep for Meta & you’ll be fine. Twitters interviews are pretty decentralized in my experience, so it really depends on the team. My interviews for Twitter were pretty similar to FB / Meta too but the final round was more behavioral with xfn leads. I'm trying to choose between Senior Product Manager offers from Twitter and Coinbase. Both roles would be focused on expanding & growing recently launched consumer products. The first year compensation for both roles is roughly equal, but Twitter has 4 year grants with yearly refreshers while Coinbase only gives 1 year grants with yearly performance multipliers, which means that Coinbase TC for an average performance would be significantly lower than Twitter's after ~3 years (465k @ Twitter vs. 400k @ Coinbase). WLB at Twitter also seems much better than at Coinbase. I want to optimize for WLB & growth, so I'm a bit torn. Twitter: Year 1 TC: 430k || Year 2 TC: 425k Pros: Better WLB, better culture Cons: Less growth Coinbase: Year 1 TC: 435k || Year 2 TC: 400k Pros: Growing industry Cons: Worse WLB, questionable culture, lower comp #twitter #coinbase #productmanager
The comp difference for the first few years being so negligible, I'd go with the role that excites you more
Twitter 1000%
@TGXQ70, curious to hear why you think this.
Twitter had a pretty big shakeup at the top recently and seems to hungry to reinvigorate the brand and product. At the same time they’re a relatively stable company with limited direct competition, I don’t think there will be too much in terms of surprises once the new direction is aligned on. Coinbase on the other hand is just barely getting out of startup phase and (I think) will struggle to retain market dominance due to the relatively low barrier of entry for competition in the crypto exchange space. I anticipate a rocky few years that where they reinvent a few times to find the right PMF. Could be wrong, but that’s my gut feeling. Also the WLB at Twitter has been historically much more chill, since joining bytedance I’ve been abruptly reminded of how important that is (coming from FB).
How many yoe do you have?
Twitter :)
Coinbase, what potential does twitter have?
I agree that Coinbase has more potential, but the reward (e.g. equity increase) is quite limited given their yearly RSU policy. Though I guess you could argue there are other potential rewards beyond compensation, like opening up other career opportunities.
First congrats on these two amazing offers You’re thinking about the potential much too narrowly IMO. Twitters equity is -7% since IPOing 8 years ago, which is insane when you think about what the tech index and tech companies have returned over the same period. If you believe in the future of crypto, then CB has the potential to go 10x in 5 years. It’s much more than an exchange and there are not low barriers to entry as others have stated. Top talent is flocking to crypto companies at an unprecedented pace, so I personally would take the CB offer and accept the inferior WLB
R u L5 at Google?
yep, recently promoted.
As another L5 PM @ Google leaving for 400-465k TC seems like leaving for equal money or less based on how long you've been here. Realistically offers for 550+ should be attainable for you. Why are you leaving for a potential lateral comp move?
Twitter is a dumpster right now
Congratulations! I voted for Twitter. You didn’t talk about any interest in Crypto/Blockchain. So, if we are to keep aside domain, Twitter too should give you some good opportunities to grow give. The recent reorg. The jump from a recent L5 at Google to a senior at Twitter itself means you will have more scope and the learning that comes with it
Thanks! Yeah I'm somewhat ambivalent about Crypto/Blockchain. I think I'm more interested in it because of the potential for growth/opportunity to build new products rather than Crypto itself. I am generally more interested in Crypto/Blockchain than social media products, so I guess Coinbase does have a slight edge in domain in comparison to Twitter, but I think WLB matters a little more to me than domain.
I missed one other point. Twitter stock has underperformed compared to G FB AMZN and MSFT and I don’t see it going up. Maybe it’ll get acquired by someone. While Coinbase stock price has an imaginable upside.

You know the answer.
LOL I wish I knew the answer. I'm still genuinely considering both options & it looks like others a bit split on the best option too. What are your thoughts?
Go with Twitter, much safer option with better wlb. Coinbase is a wild bet.
