Currently at Akamai as of now with 6 YOE - TC is $145K in Linux Engineer Role. Life is good at Akamai and I like the people at Akamai but I'm concerned about future growth and building my skills. I have two offers I am considering (still waiting on offer details from Amazon). AWS - Systems Engineer TC: 165K Smaller Company [500ish employees] (leaving name out for confidentiality) - DevOps Engineer TC:170K base + 10% 401K company deposit yearly Stay at Akamai, go to AWS, or go to the smaller company?
We would need to know about the offer details from Amazon before making a proper comparison
Right on I should have it tomorrow.
I was told TC would be 160K-170k depending on what the recruiter could get approval for
Cambridge or CA?
All offers are in the DC area
I feel that the bump is not great from your estimates. Go to Amazon if company name matters. The start-up if you are interested in a better work culture.
Is this bay area? 165k TC is low. 6 yrs at Akamai you should be cracking 200 at least
DC
Yeah DC area
I would like to eventually become a software developer one day, so curious what opportunity may set me up best for that down the line
I came into Amazon as an L4 SysEng, leveled up within a year and a half then moved over to the Systems Developer Engineer role (Amazon's SRE/Production Engineer) where I get to write a lot more code but still get to do system internals and networking work. DM me if you want to know more.
Cool thanks, sending you a DM
Just curious, what type of projects do you work on as a systems development engineer?
Care to refer me to Akami before you go? Ive ran out of DMs, so please DM me.
Hit me up if you are still looking for referral
Was Systems Engineer interview LC style
How many years of experience do you have?
YOE = 6 years
