I previously posted about this but did not have the AWS offer yet. I work at Akamai currently with 6 YOE. Current TC: Senior Linux Engineer 125K Base + 15-20% yearly bonus + on-call stipend = 153K My two offers: Small-mid size cloud company working on government contracts (keeping confidential but they have around 500ish employees) DevOps Engineer 170K Base + 10% annual 401k bonus = 187K AWS Systems Engineer (L5) (gov space) 120K Base + 79K Sign On (split over two years) + 83K RSUs (backloaded 4 years vest) total Yearly/First Year 120K Base + 44K Sign On + 4K RSU vest = roughly 168K annually (AWS also has an on-call/clearance bonus which would be 15K annually once I get a clearance) These offers are in the DC area. Should I stay or should I go? (and where should I go to?) #Amazon #AWS #Offer

AWS pros: Safer/more stable during this covid/recession Amazon on your resume Cons: Typical amazon politics (most people view this as a con) On-call Less TC Startup pros: (with limited info you posted) More TC Cons: probably less stable in this time Not a "big name" company on resume I'd go with the "safer" option of AWS as long as you can navigate the political landscape.
Just added some clarification.... The smaller company is actually dealing with many government contracts and has been around for 10+ years so they are pretty stable IMO
Do you have any input/insight on being a sys eng in Amazon?
