A lot of discussions about SWE vs quant exist, but what about quant software developer vs quant research? Do they report into the same part of the org? What about pay? When I interviewed at AQR they said quant dev and quant research sit next to each other, are paid the same, etc. That would be nice. TC: below 250 yoe: 4 Skills wise I am a jack of all trades but still more of a quant than anything else. Degree in math, definitely L4 at best if I try for Google.
Not surprising, decent TC at large bank like GS is only at VP (senior developer) and up and in trading/algo which I assume you are not, specially with only 4year exp
Lol junior VPs don't even get paid well though... It's when you have lots of direct reports that the TC becomes good.
My friend who is a junior VP (developer) at Morgan Stanley in NYC took home 450k last year^
Research for sure, but it's harder to get into that org. Quant dev is fairly similar and typically lets you get involved with research, but some companies put a big wall between the two which I consider a huge red flag.
What is the day to day work of Quant SWE ? Do they get an opportunity to at least implement the trading strategies ?

At lunch one of the two sigma people told me he interviewed as a quant and didn’t make the cut so joined as a quantitative swe
The bar seems lower yea, but whatever the numbers people throw around here seem good enough, and as long as I am involved with research I'd be happy. Anything is better than GS...
