Hi folks! After having 1(one) call with the team couple weeks back, today the recruiter called me to tell me that I got the job. I was so confused, I thought it was a scam, but then I got a (Gusto) offer in the mail, looks legit. I am SO CONFUSED.

Questions:

- Is this legit, without an onsite? what does that mean, how is that pos?

- What should I expect as a contractor? Will I be second class Googler? No food? No light? Chains?

- Recruiter says it’s a contract to hire, and I have a good chance to convert to fte, which would be kinda cool. What are the chances, you think? How about moving to a diff team in the company, how likely am I to be able to do that?

[Optional] Recruiter says I will get full benefits, including pto, 401k & health through the agency. Any thoughts if this spunds legit? Never worked w2

We don’t hire contractors with conversion in mind; contract to hire is a really rare case in Google. And yes, you will be a second class citizen, facing a lot of discriminations. The food is free, but you are not invited to any of the events.

Hi! I have an interview next week @Google for a UX contractor role. Did you join after this post? Can you answer the questions you had asked? I’m having the same questions!

They literally tell the contractors to leave in the middle of the meeting. When there’s a company wide event going on, everyone’s outside of the building, drinking and eating good food, meanwhile you’re forced to stay inside the building and work. You can watch them enjoy from the window 😂. You get treated like shit. You get no stocks = you get paid like shit. You get shitty insurance from your contract agency. There’s no such thing as “fte conversion” anymore. You have to go through all of the interviews just like any external candidates. If you don’t mind all of those, go ahead.

Don’t bother joining as a UXE. I was a UXE and I didn’t learn anything. You will be programming in Vanilla JavaScript and miss out on gaining React experience.
