How hard is it to come back to industry?

Jan 7, 2021 8 Comments

After saving about $200k at 24, I’d want to take a couple years off to travel, enjoy my life, do mathematics, and build ios side projects. I currently make about $10k a year from my apps on the side and I’d love to see if I can take that somewhere higher.

Assuming I can live a great life for 2 years from savings, worst case scenario my apps don’t take off and I have to be a slave again.

How hard would it be to do this? Would I see age discrimination at 26? Also will working for a year at FB mean anything at that point?

Would like to hear from ppl who took a couple gap years to pursue passions.

People are facing age discrimination at 26 nowadays?! I'm so old in that case.

  • I’m kind of worried at this kind of post. Age discrimination < 30 is unthinkable. But then again is it an indication that young people who think this way will start age discriminating when they come into hiring positions?

just say you tried to start your own company and it didn’t work out... because that’s basically what you’re saying you want to do

It wouldn’t affect you at all - know a couple friends that did this and went to FB during prime time years.

If anything you will have more of a story / culture. Keeping up to date with tech and trends a little bit you should be fine
