Has anyone accepted an up level job offer and then struggled to perform at the expected level? How did it go? Is anyone else good at interviewing but a mediocre engineer?

consider this as a learning assignment, worst that can happen - you’ll get piped and fired, but then you’ll get the same level again in other company - nothing to worry about, you are good at interviewing

I feel like that every time I switch levels. But one day that feeling goes away when I realize the other people at the higher level aren’t completely untouchable.

Don’t make it overly apparent that you feel overwhelmed. Dropbox does have a quicker trigger finger than it should, but you’ll be fine.

  • Many people say ‘fake it till you make it’ but I don’t agree. Set expectations with manager . You can tell you want to walk in the shoes of the team for 3-6months before you operate at your level so as to gain insight into real challenges

I prefer fake it till you make it. Like meta said, go try again at the same level somewhere else if you fail there.
