Pay at Twitter is lower than FAANG. Be prepared for that. Also most eng talent is 2nd tier.
I recommend avoiding Twitter. I’m an EM. Getting out, soon.
Pasting this from @curiousG4 last week for why not Twitter:
#1 it’s a rest and vest place. Not a place for high performers. It’s a place to coast and be mediocre. All depts.
#2 diversity is important but so I un-organized and they make each leader sit through stupid reviews that actually yield little results. The hiring process is stupid. DSI - dumb. So inconsistent and 17 different ways to hire one engineer because everyone needs to ask their own special question.
#3 most people subscribe to “the way we’ve always done it.” That really drives #1 above.
#4 They talk about diversity and inclusion all day but really are an incredibly liberal company where only liberals are really valued. Good luck being a republican or conservative and talking out loud.
#5 promotions, conversions, and general accolades are really based on you being diverse, who you know, who you’re sleeping with, or how much you like to market and promote yourself & your work. No meritocracy. A lot like high school. Private HS.
HR saying this??
For diversity: they’ve been trying to get more underrepresented folks into the pipeline so we show up to more conferences, schools which typically don’t get targeted by big tech, having apprenticeship programs and so on.
My teams have been pretty great so far, everyone gets along, fun off sites.
