Now that UK has brought a points based immigration system, is it better (TC, Savings, Quality of life, healthcare, career growth) to get a canadian PR or a UK PR? Note: Indian national, so not getting GC in the US. Both my husband and I are on our H1bs. Or should we just stick to the US on our H1bs?
Neither look good IMO. Canada -weaker jobs, weaker dollar but stable government UK - better jobs, stronger economy but a vey unstable government. If I could pick one it would be the UK
Also Canada - bigger country (in terms of area) and so car culture is similar to US. A lot of stores etc are similar to US UK - small country - you can get almost anywhere with public transport, less reliant on car. Culture of UK can get take some time to get used to compared to Canada or US, for example a lot of stores close strictly at 6. People also strictly work 9 to 5 and refuse to do more work. This is good for wlb but maybe bad for taking up better opportunities
I can give a better perspective as I grew up in U.K. Tech scene in U.K. is definitely better than Canada. Weather is good but it depends on which city you would want to live at. Canada has one advantage, which is the proximity to US. But if COVID has proven anything, that any work could be done and achieved remotely. OP should define their priorities and choose based on those. Taxes in UK aren’t less either but definitely not exorbitant unlike Canada.
London is definitely more expensive than Toronto, two very different cities too. Canada has higher acceptance for immigrants, and closely resembles US than UK. Taxes are higher in both the countries and free healthcare and good public schools. You can incorporate and save taxes in both countries and billing would be higher than a full time job. Best is to spend time in both countries if possible to make a decision
Uk is the last place one would want to go. No economy to speak of and chavs everywhere. It's a third world compared to Canada.
This is completely false. The biggest finance hub in the world after Wallstreet is London. Much of economy decisions and flow of currency for EU were made from U.K. before brexit. But even now, they have significant markets that companies operate from not only to target U.K. but the rest of Europe. UK is definitely not the last place one would want to go. UK had a very closed immigration system unlike Canada, US, Australia which made it tough for many immigrants to explore that option.
That's just London. If you want to immigrate to a city state Singapore is way better. Outside of London there are hardly any jobs in tech. The salaries are so low compared to the North America and standard of living is poor. Having stayed in UK and Canada I would say Canada is more immigrant friendly. YMMV if you are not South Asian.
FYI - You can’t get PR in UK like Canada. You need sponsorship.
Pretty sure that the UK points based system is only for temporary visas ( the right to work) not like permanent residence like Canada ( you can stay there even if you don't have a job when you landed). So Apples to Oranges. Canada from what I hear is more immigration friendly
New system is for PR
Interesting...
Why not go back to India? Why not go to Asian countries? Like China, Singapore, Japan? Why not Australia or NZ, both are closer? I don't understand why Indians want so badly to either the US, Canada or Europe.
India in my mind is definitely a very good option. However I’d like to go back to India with a resume that backs me to take on a higher level (or managerial role). The other countries you mentioned all have some restraints. China - Food (I’m a vegetarian), Immigration to Singapore has become almost impossible now or it would have been my top choice. I didn’t have enough points for the Australian PR till last year. So basically I have looked (so have other Indians who prefer US/Canada/Europe) at other options and found them unsuitable to my needs.
I don’t speak for all Indians but the east Asian countries you mentioned are quite racist towards the darker skinned races, and there is a language barrier to overcome. China is perceived as a geo-political enemy. Anglosphere works much better since many Indians study in English medium schools all their lives
Travel to any suburbs in UK and come back to tell me the experience of racial slur . Never experienced racism in US since 7 years of my life in here and travelled 37 states so far
Really?
If not US then 🇮🇳 salaries in Indian are above par compared adjusted to col. Sometimes even by nominal dollars. US is less racist compared to those countries you mentioned. Maybe Canada is not that racist, but definitely UK and Australia.
Honestly you can forget about your H1 leading to a green card too many moving pieces too much time spent on something that may never happen. The world is changing and it’s time for looking after our own before hiring foreign workers to take jobs away. Where the h1 process is ok is some cases in most its exploiting workers and adding to corporate bottom lines... now that that’s out of the way.. a permanent solution is what the goal should be having worked in all 3 nations and belonging to 2 I can say Canada is a backdoor entry into the US. A lot of us companies are based in Canada or have some presence there a Canadian PR will lead to a Canadian citizenship and then you have the option of a TN visa to work in the US as an option. UK should be a secondary option IMO because London is your only working option a British ILR ( indefinite leave to remain) will not give you additional work location options ... lifestyle in Canada and the US is similar, while very different in the UK... good luck and god bless !!

Please Help :: Should I pursue CS Masters in USA or remain in India to join Startups?
Honestly UK looks more promising
Why do you think so?
Canada is very dependent on US and oil exports. That’s faltering right now
