Can we stop pretending here?

Having been on this platform the past few months, it amazes me that some of the extremely bigoted comments here exist and still float around and go unflagged. We see things that range from blatant xenophobic, sociopolitical sentiments across age, sex, gender, religion, to some of the most inane comments that you would think only a 13 year old could ever be capable of posting on the other side of that screen.

Yeah, I get it. This place [BLIND] is exactly meant for that. But we are seeing the same type of comments coming from folks at highly sought-after, respectable companies in SV, e.g, FAANG. Is this what this industry is really all about? We're talking about script kiddies, keyboard warriors, e-thugs...these people could easily be your hiring manager or teammate in your interview panel at your next onsite interview. And you wouldn't know any better.

You think that your performance on a Leetcode-eque interview panel is everything. Fuck that! Having seen some of the shit going on here, I'm starting to think that it's just a BS way to CYA because we don't want to hire YET ANOTHER [INSERT MINORITY GROUP HERE] that doesn't fit the mold of our highly fraternized industry. Let's stop pretending we're objective people here and we care about "how you think". Unless you're specialized, I beg to differ.

My 2c.

“These people could easily be your hiring manager or teammate” - they can be and they are. We have everyone from college students to directors, VP’s, etc here. The culture can be a bit driven by TC but isn’t the world anyways?

If your panties are in a bunch, then get off the app. Most of the things everyone says here is tongue in cheek humor. I’ve seen many a post where someone has discussed burning out, or even suicidal thoughts and the community comes together and reaches out literal hands of help.

For you to get all pissy over things you read on the internet, especially an anonymous board like this, is a bit of an overreaction and you need to grow thicker skin, let things roll off your back.

    3 types of haters here:

    - MAGA
    - Far right-wing BJP/RSS folks (Hindu nationalists)
    - Incels

Given all the racism and sexism scandals in recent tech company histories...not surprised 🤷‍♂️

Right because being a “minority” and then justifying hate against minorities...totally makes it OK.

It’s like that Mexican woman at that Trump rally who said, “I’m Mexican and my culture is very imposing and dominating, you need to stand up to it if you want yours to survive”

      😂

No surprise. These are the same people on the interview panels and hiring committees.

  • Yes ..you are right.. in the name of anonymity a lot of people here show their true self. They may be masters of their skill but the way they write here shows a totally different character .. i think before any leetcoder we must try to be a good human being .. i understand some comments might be friendly jokes but there definitely are some which require flagged as hate speech / bullying etc..
