Curious to hear how Nextdoor is positioning itself to compete with other players and especially, Facebook. I'm considering an offer from them. I can see how Facebook can integrate the whole neighborhood, but curious to hear thoughts from peeps who work at Nextdoor. Thanks! https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/21/facebook-is-working-on-neighborhoods-a-nextdoor-clone-based-on-local-groups/
Nextdoor will never compete against the multinational behemoth that is Facebook. But hopefully enough of these alternative networks will pop up to whittle off that cesspool.
NextDoor and LinkedIn are the two worst apps to use out there. I support anyone’s effort to shut one or both of them down.
Why don't you like Nextdoor?
Such a poor experience. Posts disappear, posts from 5 months ago appear randomly, the reaction emojis / subject options encourage negativity and the 5G/Racist/Paranoia/Hoax Virus posts are always surfaced to the top.
The last time I used nextdoor, my neighbors were getting ready to go full mob on a "suspicious looking" guy that was reported to be waking around the neighborhood. Turned out he was a contractor working on a house nearby and on his way to get a burrito down the street. Uninstalled and deleted my account immediately after. If nextdoor is already capable of contributing to the unravelling of society via technology at current scale, I think they will compete well with Facebook in the future
Last time I used my MasterCard, someone stole my information and charged me 🎄fiddy. The interest quickly compounded and now I’m stuck forever paying back the money I never had. If MasterCard is already capable of contributing to the unraveling of society via technology at current scale... Those unfortunate situations happen on our platform, but they are the exception, not the rule. A lot of good comes from the platform. I use it to to stay connected to the neighborhood.
They could wipe us, yelp, thumbtack, CL, and many other players in local out. But they have too many products to make something coherent without revamping everything. The reason why we continue to compete is because we have a tailor made product for neighbors, local businesses, and local agencies. Don't get me wrong, they're still a formidable enemy but we didn't see Match Group disappear after FB dating launched. I doubt we will either.
What happened to Snapchat is not a distant memory.
@fb_senior last I checked SNAP is still growing and posting profits. Yes you can copy fast enough but genius is in creating something. Go break things..
Nextdoor...it’s gonna die a slow death unless they pivot or find some new value for users. It’s nothing special. Who do you know that uses Nextdoor daily? Nobody.
Nextdoor really needs a new product leader - it’s a shitty feed, marketplace is trash, and there is nothing else that people want to use it for
They have very recently got a new head of product, from our company. I don't have first hand experience working with him but from what I read in internal channel most people who have worked with him really hate him.
KP? Interesting, I thought he was very well liked because he was at LinkedIn for 10+ years
If you like topics such as lost pets, dog poop, mail thefts, helicopter flying over the neighborhood, ... Nextdoor is for you.
You forgot most prevalant one - suspicious Black man walking in neighborhood.
The power of your racist neighbors combined with your racist uncle. Sounds great.
You either Zuck or get Zucked
