Or is that against the law. I am not subject to blackout periods.

  • msft allows it. its not against the law, of course its subject to standard insider trading regulations.

even if your company has a 'policy' against it, its not like they can see your tax returns or brokerage account.

    Use common sense.

    • Cool. So you still support doing things against the policy of the company because you think they have no way of finding out. You da man! Impressed by the core ethical values in Microsoft.

    • Give me a break. These days my company would hand a job to dev half my caliber if they met diversity criteria. I live by my own morales (Im an ethical person) and a corporation can fuck themselves. Id never do insider trading.

Apple policy clearly states no options trading on AAPL stock..why risk it and get a subpoena

  • At Qualcomm, policy prohibits all trading in derivatives of the company stock, including all market traded options. Most companies will have a similar policy. It’s not that it’s illegal, it’s just suspicious.

    • It’s not about whether an investigation would clear you... If they even open an investigation, your company is going to be mightily pissed.

Imagine that you buy some calls on your company stock and it pops 10% a few days later. Normally, you’d be thrilled, but this is actually the kind of thing that can get you in a lot of trouble, and by extension, get your company in a lot of trouble. You can expect your company’s legal department to be less than thrilled at your faith in the stock price.

    • how is that any less suspicious than buying a ton of common stock before a big increase? Or selling all your shares right before a crash?

  • How would they even find out? And what’s to stop your spouse from doing it for you in their account?
