I just found out I got GE rating as E6 ($400k stock refresh) and manager asked me if I want to work for E7 promo plan and I declined.

I work 25-30h/w. I spend my time giving "directions", influencing other E5s and work for more impact, directions. Most E5s are putting 50+h/w while i take credit for all their work in directions.

Retired for good. I know this gravy train won't last and I will get PIPed out at some point :)

TC: $600k+

And they expect us to flatten a linked list, compile it and pass all test cases in 30 min for this kind of work. We're doomed.

SDEs that rarely write code, almost never be at their desk, but indulge in meetings and directions are deteriorating the work place culture of focused and bottom-up problem solving.

Overpaid! you are a master bullsh!t artist.

“Multiply impact...influence, guide, and give direction...make sure they are happy, challenged.” Slow clap.

Of course none of that is true, but you’ve got the right people convinced that it’s true. Even people on blind think you’re altruistic. That’s why you get paid. Well done.

Take notes, folks. While you’re leetcoding, overpaid is taking credit for your work and even makes you feel good about it. Bravo.

@jp Morgan. I guess op is true to an extent here. Giving directions and setting scope is a valuable skill and cannot be seen as taking credit. If that's how you see it - according to you Prodcut managers, project managers, engineering managers, CEO takes credit for your work. None can create a value just by writing code. There are other aspects involved. Being a swe myself, it is sad to see other swe discount the valuable skills that op has. Trust me, once you work with someone like op, you can learn more leadership qualities as well which is waaaaaay more important than just churning out code and calling it a day. It is time to include one or two business courses in CS Bachelors and Masters coursework. I think we have generated a generation of non collaborators and our industry is a classic example of that
