Got an offer from Snowflake and I am thinking of going ahead with it. I want to hear a few things about Snowflake work culture.

How is wlb at Snowflake in general? Is there any PIP culture? How are annual refreshers for post-IPO employees? I liked the interview panel and it seemed like a good place to work and grow. But I want to hear the insider point of view.

How are the employee benefits like? Is there any policy of monthly 1 day additional time-off company wide? Any other benefits that I should be aware of? (I am aware of no 401k match; pretty average health insurance coverage; monthly wellness reimbursement;)

  • Worst place Ive ever been with 20+ yoe. Unlimited pto but if you take you will underperform. Vesting stops after 30 days of any time off over 12m window, if you take 2 weeks in August and then 2 weeks next July your vesting stops for a quarter. Meet expectations only gets 90% bonus. No refreshers in general very few get it. No PIP they will just fire you even if you outperformed but disagreed with VP. Every month some eng or manager gets fired. Naver saw such rate at any other company. Top down driven culture non tech managers tell you what to work on. Flooded with ex googlers who only know how to code in gdoc but over opiniated and know nothing outside of google. Even more political than apple. Everyone plays blame game. Some bad employees can fire you by telling shit to others about you. Eng tools just cannot be worse. Too many bad leaders on VP roles.
    Some team better than others, please join just dont say you were not warned;)

    Wow, this feedback makes it looks like another amazon, I am joining next month but I guess I need to think about it now… I am happy in my current job and only work like 3-4 hrs a day for like 2-3 days, other days just chill … with about 20% bump, I don’t think this will be worth it… I thought snowflake was fun and had good wlb… wow wow wow !!!!!!

    • Yes, "type faster" is a joke from the times that the company founders pitched their idea to some VCs and they were excited. And it's a joke exactly because typing faster is not the true solution to the problems (I hate having to explain jokes)

    • Thats funny part as yes everyone thought it IS a joke until it wasnot. Founders even had to explain it one more time that it was a joke. But damage was alrwady done. You will not believe haw many line managers took it as rule for action. I've heard literally that it is our number one priority and cultural value. Then you add all emails that we cannot slowdown and keep going as fast as we can. We have too many managers who just say yes to everything and dont put too much effort for understanding jokes.

  • Depends on team. But in general, WLB is decent, people actually take their PTO. End culture is good from the top. Sadly we have accrued some middle managers that are less good. The company has good through some epic growth so some tech debt has accrued.

    No PIP culture. Refresher are not guaranteed, but given to high performers.

      How does unlimited PTO work? Are managers supportive of employees taking PTO? What aspect of the eng culture is being influenced by these middle managers?

  • Refreshers are not guaranteed. Unlimited PTO, about 10 days year end holidays, random snowday (day off) here and there. Once a week focus time.

    Don’t think there is a PIP culture
