UX Design Masters

Hey! Is it worth to get a Masters in UX Design? Do employers care at all? What would you do instead?

Some do, but if you have relevant years of experience, it could be worth more than a Masters

The quality of your portfolio > higher education degree.

What's a UX design portfolio that stands out for you? And what should I do if I have little to no experience?

These are what I would look from industry hires. 1. Understanding of the problem space. 2. Thought process to come up solutions 3. Why choosing a solution over others 4. How to test out hypothesis/solution in order to course correct in the fastest way 5. How to scale. 6. Business acumen/prioritisation. All of these would demonstrate product thinking and experience. Now as for new grad hires: 1. Strong design thinking 2. Unusual perspectives 3. "Users" over "what a designer wants" 4. Flexible in thinking (potential to be coached to become better at X)

Degrees don’t matter, portfolios do. I have worked with incredible designers who were college dropouts.

Great question. I think exposure a wide variety of problems and a mix of interaction and visual design kind of work is what design managers would look for. Big companies dont matter necessarily. Uber has a ton of designers who were at much smaller unknown companies before.

Masters degree does not matter. If you have relevant experience and folio to show you can work anywhere.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Sorry I copied and pasted the replies, but I legit want to know the perspective of each and one of you in that sense! :)

Masters degree won't change your TC much. Plus, you'll have the student debt. Portfolio/experience > degree
