I’m a designer/Head of UX with 15 YOE. I was doing “UX” before it was called “UX”. I see a ton of people/jobs/companies either selling themselves as designers, looking for designers, or hiring designers, who have no real sense of design and think everything should rely on design patterns with no individual personality. Is this a disturbing trend in the product/design industry or am I crazy?
I think businesses are hiring UX pro’s and then not listening to them and just doing what they want. There are a ton of corporate sites that are horrible to look at and even worse, just don’t work. If you are a geek you will think to try it in another browser but if your not you just give up mad.
Depends on the field, e-commerce has less flexibility on this than say, media.

Design and art are different. Some teams want a design system to work across multiple years and designers. That's my guess, I'm a novice at this field .
