UX designer at huge for Google ($85hr) or full time at a new agency ($165k)

UX designer in here with 3 years of experience in ux and 6 years since I graduated from a good college. My ex boss is creating a new agency, they treated me really good on my last job and are super smart. They have sold a few agencies before to big corporations and are creating a new one. They offered me to be the 4th employee full time for $165k plus $15k bonus. They already have big clients and the work is really interesting, lots of innovation and playing with emerging tech. But I also got an offer to work for @google via Huge (an agency) that will hire me as freelance for $85/hour. I would be working at the mountain view campus. Where should I go and why?

You seem to be more excited about the new agency. Work somewhere that makes you excited.

The new agency if only because: - you know the people, and they treated you good - salary is better than wages

You really don’t want to be working at google as a contractor. They will treat you like a second citizen. I would go with the agency. Also agency work makes more interesting and better portfolios

Avoid staff agencies at all cost. Also Googlers will treat you like “2nd class citizen”. You hesitate between a temp contract and a full-time employment??

Thanks for the advice!

Agency. I’ll likely go back to agencies/consultancies after doing some time at Amazon. Doesn’t pay as well but way more fun & rewarding.

See if you can get equity in new agency?

if I were you I will go with the agency. Sounds like you will have more control on projects there and learn more.
