I'm preparing for a job switch and hoping to move to a new company sometime around March 2022.

I'm on OPT and my current employer is going to file h1b next year.
In case they file and it gets picked up in the lottery, what is the time frame in which I absolutely cannot change employer? Also, if it doesn't get picked, what's the window?

    Also consider staying with the employer who filled your application as there are several lottery rounds to fill 85k.

  • H1B visa would become active in October, so you can’t switch before that if your application gets selected. Even if you don’t get selected, I believe it’s better to stick around since they have started doing multiple lotteries .
    So either switch before March or in last quarter of 2022.

    P.s I am not up to date on h1b lottery rules, so ask others.
