Uber ATG SWE Offer
SWE @9 yoe (1.5 year FAANG + data startups) Offer from ATG in SF. L5 TC 192K / 750K 4 years / 28K Bonus Current 200K & Monopoly money Currently in the loop to interview with Cruise, Argo, and Amazon (Offer Stage). Getting some pressure from the recruiter to decide by next week so feels like they want to close before I finish all the interview loops. My previous two startups flopped due to poor product market fit and sub-par founders who were both product background so a bit sensitive on the product counterpart. I heard the current Head of Product at ATG has a really bad reputation who isn't really respected by any eng that were on my interview loop. The eng folks seemed OK but not wow. Can anyone share some insights to how ATG really is these days? Also if folks at Argo and Cruise can share how the Product and Eng functions together would be great.

I’ll go with Uber - as they going IPO soon that’s why recruiter might be pushing you, I heard they don’t give RSU by number of shares, instead they do $ value is that true ? What is 28K ? Yearly cash bonus ?
No on the offer letter they provide the actual RSU number roughly around $48 per share. 28K is the annual bonus target.
What’s the number of RSU they offered you ? Because 409a value is not 48$ Based on your previous comments it’s like 750/48 ~ 15,625 number of RSUs Actual 409a is now 51 something so RSU total would be around ~ 15,625 * 51 ~ 800K Which is good offer right before IPO
Don’t know much about the ATG org. Heard both plusses and minuses about them. The good thing is internal transfers are welcomed (even encouraged) at Uber, provided you’ve been there for ~6 months and are in “good standing” performance wise. I see people switching around all the time. Also — What’s your yearly refresher?
Can one transfer internally to an ML engineer position at Uber?
The recruiter mentioned it can be anywhere from 160 - 230 but nothing is guaranteed. Would you be able to elaborate what are some of the plus and minus?

Considering a move to Uber ATG Denver myself. Does anyone know if pay at the denver office will be on par with west coast?
I know 2 folks who came from ATG to our team at HQ (prime). They tell us all the horror stories about ATG so if I were you I would avoid it. The general themes are IC’s are good but management under qualified to do the job. They say Eric Meyhofer the current Head of ATG is incompetent to run such a large org. If you are worried about product Eric Hanson was a low level designer who got to his spot by back stabbing a lot of people is what they shared. It is well known at Uber that Meyhofer promoted Hanson from L5a to L7 by doing some dirty laundry. Current attrition rate at ATG I heard is high as well. Why not consider other parts of Uber. We have a lot of spots open across the mothership solving real interesting problems. The core business will continue to grow. Best of luck with your decision! And Congrats
Fantastic background thank you. Any intel on the manager Ted Dame? He joined as part of the bing maps acquisition. Do you think these cultural and management problems impact the Denver office also?
I don’t know the specifics of 1st level managers. Boulder team all used to be part of Uber Maps before getting onto the ATG side. That is as much as I know. But again I think the poor management will impact every aspect of people’s morale and culture don’t you think? I’m sure Theranos seattle office, Enron california office, Lehman Brothers London office would all have been impacted by poor top leadership. But maybe as an IC you might be shielded who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at the end it is your choice and your career.

Do you happen to know if it is feasible to ask the recruiter to see if there is a different team inside of Uber they can match? Or does ATG & HQ have different recruiting team
