A friend(software engineer) revealed to me during a party that he only made 148k(base + bonus, not counting RSU) last year, and I believe he had been with Uber for many years 3+). Is this looking reasonable? It seems to be way to low but I think he’s very creditable. Location: SF HQ YOE: 5 maybe
Uber is light on cash and higher on equity on average relative to other companies. But I would say it’s lighter on average relative to the top tier tech companies for TC in general. You aren’t going to be low balled but if your only goal is to maximize tc you probably won’t work here.
Caveat being that since equity piece can be pretty massive annual tc for some could range by as much as close to 6 figures depending on how the stock performs. So it’s kind of hard to say how Uber’s tc really is at this point. I have seen a massive range of projected outcomes on ipo.
Lol that's funny saying we are high on equity. We're average on it, if not lower.
SDE 1? Probably
I have 4 yoe and I made more than that. So that might be true.
Sounds about right, tbh. Probably started as lower end L3, hopefully promoted to L4 by now.

RSUs are where the big $$ you see on blind are even if it is just paper money. How many yoe does your friend have? That looks reasonable if 3yoe in total, but low if they have 10yoe or something.
I think 5
Probably a little low then (maybe 20-30k below what I would expect), but really depends on how much paper money is attached to it.
