Recently received my TC package from Uber for a non technical role. Base: $81K Bonus: $8K RSU: $35K Refresh: $12K Position is in SF and currently living in SoCal so I'll have to move. For the COL (Cost of Living), it seems like the offer is lower than expected? Any insights to what I can or should counter or negotiate to?
I would say it's really low
That’s what I figured. I’ve never really had to negotiate compensation package. Any tips on how to approach it? Like do I just listed out what I want each area to be at? Or do I just “softball” it and see if they can just do better
How about starting off by checking online resources for a ballpark of the TC for the role. Glassdoor is a good place to start ... Counter offers can help too
Well glassdoor just says $105k. But iono if that’s the TC or just the base. Indeed says $98k. Also no idea if that’s just base salary for TC
Both are better than 80-85K. Why dont you start at 100k
Yeo? Job Function? There are many non tech roles.
Low ball for sure. Negotiable hard by comparing cost of living in both areas
You should be askin for no less than 100k base in the bay if unless you have no xp.
2.5 yeo. Analytics. Okay thank you for the insights. That’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure if the other compensations such as bonuses, Rsu, and refreshers were how they were able to support the low base salary
Yeah I think $100k base would certainly reasonable/doable. Definitely look up median/average base salary on Glassdoor though
Thank you for the help! I’ll shoot them an email and let’s see how it goes haha
We have equal pay policies that make negotiating very hard. If they offered you 81k base it’s unlikely they will go up to 100k. I think you are lucky if you get an extra 5k. Good luck.
Oh makes sense, should I just focus on trying to negotiate the other aspects of the compensation package such as the initial RSU and bonus? Or would you say those are pretty hard to negotiate as well?
Lol liberalism does it again
Whatever would make you more comfortable with the decision. It's not rocket science.
