It looks like I have the option to work at either the PA office or the 555 office. During my interviews, I only saw the 555 office but if I had to be honest the building felt a bit old/dingy, and really lacked any sort of “Uber” or hip-tech feel. It pretty much felt like a temporary office. From what I can tell the HQ is pretty cool, so it’s kind of a bummer that I wouldn’t be where all the buzz is. I’m guessing working there isn’t an option? Is the PA option the better choice? Maybe just the particular floor of 555 I was on was bad? Maybe 555’s location balances it out? Thoughts?
Nothing techie or cool about PA, but I love it there because it’s super laid back like a 90s company, tons of light and great food. If you have a family PA is gold.
We’re opening up our new mission bay office next year! It’ll be hip and cool as you wanted it.
2020 so 2 years?
555 sucks. The elevators are slow and it’s an absolute nightmare around lunchtime.
It's a nightmare when you want to take a dump in PA office because all toilets are taken, always
PA might be too boring for young people , since there’s not much to do and far from restaurants or overall, places 555 is crowded and not as good looking as 1455 but is not bad once you learn the floors specially since you can always work on the shaded areas like the 8th floor that get pretty good light and a nice and usually alone kitchen My question here is it the same team for both locations ? If it is don’t worry about it go for 555 and if you don’t like it just tell your manager you wanna move to Palo Alto
555 is where all the engineering action is. If you seek to be around that, 555 is the place to be. Palo Alto is a small growing office, pretty much created to attract future senior FANG (South Bay) talent. It’s in the VMware office in the Los Altos area, which is obviously very beautiful.
PA option is way better
Any particular reason?
So I can’t comment on Uber, but as a (now former) VMware employee I’ve been on the part of campus that Uber is now using. If you like to be in an downtown style office where you can walk out and grab some food at lunch from a variety of restaurants then it won’t be for you. If you like campuses that feel more like you’re able to walk around in the trees and be a bit more chill then it would be conducive to that. You can always Uber to downtown PA or Los Altos if you want to get out of the office for lunch or something.
