New grad, similar offers. SWE. Where to go? I think Amazon does some really awesome things as a company and that's exciting, at the same time I wouldn't like to enter a "hateful" environment and reading on Blind seems like that might be the case. Uber seems fun since it's in an earlier stage. That said, I think that what they do is not comparable to what Amazon does. As an example, they are planning to sell (if not sold already) their ATG division whereas Amazon just bought Zoox (as an example of how Amazon is in a much better position to pursue really impactful and innovative routes). Seattle seems more chill and maybe has a better QoL than SF? Also cheaper and less taxes. I've never lived in the Bay Area so that's interesting as well, I'm just wondering if it's not over there yet. TL;DR: Amazon does cooler things with more success (IMHO) but I don't want to be in a hateful environment.
Why tech is much more prestigious at Uber?
@OP Uber is a younger more agile company, and doing some innovative things technology wise because they don’t have the weight of legacy systems that a company like Amazon will have. In the older companies you’ll have a higher chance of spending time maintaining 10-15 year old shitware vs a place where you have more opportunity to work with new technology. It won’t always be this way as Uber continues to mature, but for now it is. At Amzn, even if you are working on something new and cool you could end up spending time integrating it with some old fossils. Same here at MS btw
As a new grad, don't worry about how innovative a company is - you won't get to do any of the cool work anyways. In both cases, you'll be doing similar things. Focus on comp + prestige (brand value for next job) + learning + career growth.
a huge company doing cool stuff is a poor indicator on whether or not u should join them
like most other aspects of ones company experience, it comes down to team and what the day to day work entails. it’s unlikely you’ll be working on the thing you define as cool
Actually the team I got in Amazon is kind of cool. Or at least so it seems
Wats the TC amazon has offered?
Uber new grad hits 200k year 1 with signing, and around 165-170 post that. Doubt Amazon new grad matches that.
Are you calling me a liar
Amazon buying Zoox is a tax write off for them.

Please don't join Amazon if you don't want to become unemployable. Very old tech.
Like what?
can you share some examples? does it apply to the retail org only or aws as well?
