Need help with LI offer eval Current and LI - both Non-Engg roles Current: L4 Base - 110k RSU ~ 20k/yr (409A rate) Bonus target - 10k/yr No 401k, ESPP LI offer: IC3 Base - 135k RSU ~ 12.5k/yr Bonus target - 10% 401k, ESPP Need help in answering : - Uber L4 to LI IC3, is it a down level? - Does the bump in base and MSFT stock justify giving up current Uber stock? (I know it’s paper, but it will have some value eventually) LI Recruiter was unwilling to budge
Check out levels.fyi for level mapping. I’d shop around for better offers if I were you. The little increase doesn’t seem to be worth the hassle of switching companies etc.
Levels.fyi is for engineering roles
True
Always take liquid over non liquid if the comp is same
Say that to the hundreds of millionaires who joined Uber 4+ years ago. While what you say is partially true, fortunate favors the brave, no risk no reward
Again, "If comp is same" liquid is liquid, if I am joining an startup, even a unicorn like Uber. I expect 2x equity because payment is delayed. Also there is no guarantee how the stock will perform when Uber IPOs, not to forget lockup period. Microsofts stock is stable. Its better to cash out on RSU and invest in FAANG than to take a risk with Uber for same comp.
LinkedIn has a great brand and the comp is about 10% up. There is also a lot of value in just seeing how different companies operate from a learning perspective.
Uber doesn't provide 401k?!
I think they mean 401k matching
Correct - no match
It’s more about work. 10% less in compensation is nothing if the work at uber really grows your skills and connections.
😂 lol
"it will have some value eventually" ... Why?
When???
LinkedIn, and I usually like to take bold risks. I have zero confidence in Uber right now, although Dara might prove us all wrong.
Also, try to get more equity.
110k base is a L3offer at Uber. Also, 409a doesn’t mean much and it is companies best interest to have very low 409A value so they pay less tax. As a young person, this is the best time to take risk. Uber might be risked but will offer more to your career than LinkedIn.
Can you be more specific about how Uber has more to offer?
Thank you. I’m L4 non-tech. Uber’s non-tech pay is 25th percentile of market rate. Been here over a year. Haven’t found my career growth even with above target perf. Hence, looking-around.
Uber subsidizes every ride and is a long way from a profit. Its more likely that ride sharing will crash and burn than an IPO at this point. Go LI.
Some people get some facts wrong. I’m just surprised you got everything wrong.
Keep telling yourself that, drone
