I have an offer for L5a PM at Uber. Wondering what is the normal WLB and hours for PMs. TC: $417k/year YOE: 8 The engineering team is based in India, and I am east coast hours so wondering if anyone has experience with that affecting hours as well. My competing offer is Meta L5 - TC $360k/year #Uber #product #wlb #L5 #productmanagement #worklifebalance #tech
That’s what I’m afraid of - being stretched on both ends. But from what I can tell, east coast never has to do the late night India calls cause that is too late at night. When you see early often, what time have you seen? I’m ok with 8am-6pm days, but, not really willing to do much earlier. Also, have you seen flexible hours for people with early meetings being able to work asynchronous on their own time during the day if they want to work out etc?
Unless you have an insane boss managers are very flexible as long as you get the work done. So you can structure whichever days you’re on late, flex the other days to start later - so on and so forth. It will fall a lot on you however to set boundaries because people love to double book your or ignore work hours unless you say something but once you do they get it and are generally respectful
Keep in mind 8:00am in NY is ~6pm in India so you should try to be accommodating if you can but I find INdia tends to work late vs US teams work earlier based on work culture
I would join Uber vs meta. Congrats getting out of ZG
Congrats OP, can you share how did you prepared for your Uber and Meta interviews?
OP is $417K uber offer and which location?

I’m a program manager that partners closely with two PMs - one in India and SF. East coast seems work well to manage partnering with both but you should consider you’ll need to be up early often to work with the team in India but if your team is still in SF and does late meetings f that may significantly impact your wlb. Meeting culture is very heavy at uber. You should speak to your hiring manager on how they collaborate across time zones and during outages / huge adhoc issues.
