I've never heard of anything like that but I'm not anywhere near the surge code
We dont
demand might take qps into account? but I highly doubt a single individual could influence surge price on their own
I don’t think there is any correlation to the number of times you check and the price you get
The number of people looking at the app is used to estimate demand in the area but your price does not get higher just because you look at the app a few times.
+1 to what others said. Dynamic pricing is based on supply and demand only. The algorithm may take eyeballs (not just requests) into account, but only by others in the area. I’m not anywhere near the code either, but the model is to encourage drivers to go to the area / riders to slow requesting so that pricing drops back to base and to keep pickup times reliably low — including what you’re suggesting in the algorithm would defeat the purpose of dynamic pricing. Fair question though since airlines have dynamic pricing models that DO rely on views. Uber just doesn’t happen to do that.
I agree but I always wait 10-15mins, and re-check to see whether price got down
Yeah I've waited 20 mins to go home from the club before and it was like 1/3 f the price
