Uber comp after promotion to L4
Hi wanted to know what is Ubers compensation after promotion from L3-L4. I got downlevelled to L3 but my manager and my team sincerely believe I would be promoted within a year with high probability, assuming I dont fuck up. Uber is offering me 123k base 130 stock 12.5 target 31k joining bonus split over two years which becomes 186k . I have a conpeting offer from Amazon for sde 1 which is 210k wanted to know after promotion would I earn at least this much or more as I know after promition in Amazon my salary would barely increase. Does Uber internally follow Amazons policy of internal promotion being at the bottom percentile?? YOE-1.6 Current TC- 115
That's a big difference to give up Amazon. Also Uber might tank and your stock could be worthless. In their current state promotions with larger salaries is probably not the best bet with Uber.
Promos are never guaranteed. Do not listen to the promises on this from managers or recruiters at any company. If you do get promoted, your base will go up to bottom of next level. Bonus target is the same for everybody in a level but it will only apply to you in the next perf cycle following your promo. Stock does not get adjusted, but your refresher target will go up to the next level.
What is the base for L4?? L3-L4 should be pretty easy in my opinion.
L4 base will be ~150k. But promos aren't that simple to crack in one year.
Go to Amazon, you're leaving a lot on the table by going 3 to 4 vs bring hired as 4. After Amazon you can join as a 4.
It shouldn't be that hard for you to get promo to L4 after one year, though it could be closer to 1.5 years depending on how perf review cycles line up (you'll likely need at least 2 rounds of reviews, which are always January and July). The minimum for L4 in SF is probably like 130k. In the past Uber has had a policy where a promo receives at least a minimum 8% raise. In my non-expert opinion, you can reasonably expect L4 promo to put you in the 133-142k range (ie 8-15% raise from 123k).
