Google CFO confirms "large-scale" layoffs today (Apr 17)
for one, sr uber sde may not accept a paycut. hiring teams have a budget to meet for salary. or even if they do take a temp pay cut, you'd worry they'd keep looking for the exits when a better opportunity arises. frequent churn is not good for a team. you also can't just stack a team full of very experienced ppl. sometimes you want hires with less experience to allow your existing sr folks opportunitied to mentor and lead. others still may new grads to do the crappy work.
