Got off a call with the recruiter. He said I did good for the onsite and they were willing to give me an offer but I was leveled as a L3 and Uber currently does not have a lot of openings for L3. So they would need to find a spot for me on other teams. I am kind of shocked since Uber is such a big company but they don’t have a lot of reqs for L3? Maybe because of the upcoming IPO? Am I doomed? Or there will be team for me?
Soft reject. Uber recruiter also told me that they would love to find other team after my onsite interview, but when I told them I had an offer, they simply say they move forward with other candidate :)
Strange, what’s the purpose of soft rejecting. The next candidate might be a higher level? I told the recruiter Uber was my first choice though.
What org and role did you interview for?
What do you mean by org? For role: swe backend
Org is like rider? Driver? Marketplace? Business?
It’s because of upcoming IPO
We don't have much more space. Probably want to only hire experienced eng with the spots remaining
I think a lot of companies have limited spots for entry level. I’ve heard that from Lyft, Dropbox, and Facebook now. Personally I do think L4 engineers are significantly more productive than L3s, who are sometimes only slightly more productive than interns. Teams that have projects that need to be delivered soon don’t have much time to train junior devs.
Yeah but what’s a difference between L3 and L4. I did really well on the onsite interviews and have 2 YOE. I am guessing it’s because I am not from a FAANG company.
How long did it take after the onsite for the recruiter to reach out?
3 days
Thanks!
