I had uber phone screen yesterday and it went pretty well, Interviewer was satisfied and happy with the solution I provided for the problem. I covered all the possible cases when asked about the unit test cases of the problem and answered correctly on the followed up question. But still I got a rejection email from the recruiter today. I am not able to understand what could be the reason of rejection.
Maybe the interviewer had two questions in mind and you could only solve one in that time. I was asked an LC hard and a medium. Also possible that they are in urgent need of someone and had already found one for that role. There are lots of other options, better to move on and focus on the rest.
I've phone screened hundreds of people. I believe almost all of them went away feeling good about it because that's how I want people to feel. I build little wins in to get them going and the questions are, in my opinion, engaging and fun. But most of them are flops. Yeah, they answered the question and had great test cases. But they took 28 minutes and required more guiding than others. They only got through one of the heavier technical questions whereas some other candidates made it through two or more. They bad-mouthed a previous employer or spoke condescendingly when I pushed back on their answer. Or maybe they did everything right but we did 18 phone screens and I can't bring everyone in. Who knows.
28 minutes is the key here
It be like that sometimes.
Very common scenario, move on , concentrate on next interview. Think itβs blessing in disguise and something great waiting for you.
At least you heard back.
Probably a marketing role
I have heard similar reviews from others. They gave 2 correct answers and ran all test cases , still got rejects. Initially i thought maybe they didnt communivate well before they started coding, but this particular friend said he actually did do all of these things before he started coding. As others said, maybe they have already hired way too many. Just move onto others.
Is uber sw eng hiring tram specific (like amzn), or HC committe based (like goog)?
Anything could have happened. Do you have the faintest idea of what could have gone wrong? If yes: itβs a learning opportunity. If not: do not spend one more second thinking about it. Regroup, and get ready for next interview.
