It seems like the worst a company can do. Put a cliff in contract and then f** employees by layoff without any equity at all. Equity is major portion of compensation. Never ever can i let anyone join Uber after this. #severance #layoff

Lyft removed cliff and vested for quarters earned.

I remember a clause in my contract (when I joined Roku) which esentially said, if I am layed off through no fault of my own (performance, or some other 'cause'), all my unvested options will vest immediately.

I still don’t know why do people join that company especially in the bay area where there are so many options! It’s evident that it’s an evil company.

  • This is standard. Airbnb’s severance package was an outlier on the plus side. The alternative would’ve been to lay you off earlier and provide a better severance package from there.

Sorry you’re having a rough time. I’m sure having Uber on your cv will help.

AirBnB letting you keep the stock is not the same.

      1. Uber is public, AirBnB is not
      2. AirBnB valuation nosedived, which means stocks are worthless.

Just another illusion sold to the employees of AirBnB as its a heavy trust business — to let someone stay at your home, its not severance its PR!

So you don’t get a part of equity if they lay you off like a day before the date they get vested?

The rest of the severance plans look solid.

This cutting of equity for newer hires is rough. Those are people who had joined even after Uber’s lay-offs of last year.
