It seems like the worst a company can do. Put a cliff in contract and then f** employees by layoff without any equity at all. Equity is major portion of compensation. Never ever can i let anyone join Uber after this. #severance #layoff
So you don’t get a part of equity if they lay you off like a day before the date they get vested?
Only employees with >=9 months get equity, rest can eat shit
This sucks man. They could fire you before that and you don’t get anything. Always negotiate for a good sign on.
Yes, please screw them all in your interviews
The rest of the severance plans look solid. This cutting of equity for newer hires is rough. Those are people who had joined even after Uber’s lay-offs of last year.
What’s the severance package like?
This is standard. Airbnb’s severance package was an outlier on the plus side. The alternative would’ve been to lay you off earlier and provide a better severance package from there. Sorry you’re having a rough time. I’m sure having Uber on your cv will help.
Its weird that employees fall for "cliff", especially since they just fired last year before hiring a lot of us.
The cliff is consistent with the vesting schedule if you weren’t laid off (assuming Uber’s vesting schedule is similar to most tech companies, I haven’t seen the contract myself). As for you getting laid off so soon, that’s just a consequence of unprecented times. Obviously Uber wasn’t expecting to have to trim fat so aggressively last year.
Is it 9 month from date of joining or 9 months from 15th of the month you join? I heard 1st year equity vests on 15th of the month you join regardless of joining date.
Don't know, may be they will screw the employees on technicality.
9 months from starting ... the package is pretty good honestly .. except for new joiners ...
What’s the severance package? Health insurance?
I still don’t know why do people join that company especially in the bay area where there are so many options! It’s evident that it’s an evil company.
I bet you use Uber and Lyft all the time.
Using a product is different than working at that company. What was your point again?
Wait, so you got a lay-off with less than 9 months of working there? What team / level yoe?
Sorry can’t disclose team Yoe : 11
Uber stringed a lot of folks before their IPO as well, keeping the engineers stuck as they kept waiting to go public. But that pales in comparison to whats going on now. I feel for you. Stay strong!
