Uber vs Square

Got initial numbers from both. Here's how they look - My yoe - 7.5 Uber ------- position - SDE 2/high L4 base - 160K rsu - 385K sign-in bonus - 25K Square ----------- position - Senior SDE/high L5 base - 170K rsu - 400K sign-in bonus - 15K There's still some room to negotiate the offer with Uber. Square told me that they don't increase much from the initial offer. Both companies' teams and projects sound exciting. I'm expecting Uber will at least match the numbers someway or other with Square. Questions: 1. Do these numbers look reasonable? 2. What can be considered a good TC for each of these companies given my yoe? I was expecting to get around 200K base, 550K rsu and 50K+ sign-in bonus. Are these unreasonable numbers? If not, how can I pitch these to the recruiters? 3. Any comment on this two companies, their work culture, or anything else that i need to know.

Can Uber level up? My friend had PhD and 3 years experience got a similar SDE II offer from Uber (a little lower). What price are you quoating here?

Cruise Automation Llllllkll Sep 13, 2018

Actually 20k per year lower. This is really the highest of L4 I think.

Thanks. Price is around 41. How much increase in TC can I expect if uber offers me L5?

Real money vs paper money

Epic akaimma OP Sep 13, 2018

I understand. At the same time, does not uber have huge potential when they become public?

Square KyleQ Sep 13, 2018

Possibly! But a bird in the hand...

Get an offer from google and use it as leverage. Without other offers, it’s hard to move the needle significantly beyond 10-30k

Epic akaimma OP Sep 14, 2018

I already have two offers. Do I need more?

LinkedIn robotparts Sep 13, 2018

There is no such thing as a ‘high’ whatever level.

LinkedIn Liveandevi Sep 14, 2018

Eh. There is definitely a quartile and position. How does OP know his is another story

Apple UuUuUui Sep 13, 2018

Why not both. They are in the same building anyways ;)

LinkedIn kleF03 Sep 13, 2018

My suggestion is Square. Uber will be fine. But I don’t see any upward potential after going public as its valuation is way higher than it should be.

Cruise Automation Llllllkll Sep 13, 2018

I don’t think so. If it’s way higher then there won’t be two new investments after softbank shrinks its valuation to 48B. The 2017 was unexpected, valuation was overvalued. Now as lyft expansion slow down and Ubereats doing well, the valuation is justified.

LinkedIn Liveandevi Sep 14, 2018

Both companies are fine except - You already missed the Square’s train - Uber’s last train is approaching

Epic akaimma OP Sep 14, 2018

This is what I'm feeling as well.

Yahoo TopPerform Sep 14, 2018

OP, have you made a decision? In similar boats as you.

Epic akaimma OP Sep 14, 2018

Can you share details on your offers?

Epic akaimma OP Sep 14, 2018

Can someone comment on the TC and all? Do these numbers look reasonable? Where can they be improved and by how much?

Apple Www qq Sep 15, 2018

TC is low, to be honest. I have 4 years of experience and was offered a little more than this from both companies.

Mind sharing your numbers, @Apple?
