I have 3 new grad offers from Uber, Twitter (200k TC) and Morgan Stanley (75k LCOL). Obviously TC-wise I'm not even considering Morgan Stanley, but I have a genuine interest in finance especially after interning there and enjoying the work. I'm mostly prioritizing career growth and interesting work/challenges. Any thoughts? People at Twitter, is the current roadmap interesting? Thanks! TC breakdown [Base|Target bonus|Stocks/4yr|Sign-on]: Uber: 128.25k|13.5k|112.5k|20k Twitter: 133k|13.3k|124k|20k #engineering #software #swe
What role is this for Uber
All three are SWEs, with Twitter and Morgan leaning towards Data, and Uber backend
Can you share TC breakdown for Uber and Twitter?
Just updated the post with breakdowns!
Uber ded
Hello
I’m saying Uber for potential stock growth in the next 2-3yrs. If you listened to their earnings call, they are heading towards profitability in the next coming Quarters. Twitter is still reputable, but they haven’t innovated in any notable way in the past couple years. If anything, they are only experimenting with paid subscriptions (their business model) not actually expanding into new categories.
“Heading towards profitability” 😂
😂
I’d say stay away from Uber. Insiders seem very worried about how the things are in the company.
I was interning there and indeed this is true, but still a lot of people were believers and truly awaiting the tables to turn around
Twitter undoubtedly. I'll explain why. First of all, MS isn't even a question. So kicking it out. TC is 189k at Uber and 197k at Twitter. Twitter has much better WLB and faster promotion. It's a no brainer compared to uber. Also, congrats on such high offers. Do you have some work experience or Master's degree? These are (esp Twitter) abnormally high offers. Compared to twitter, only advantage at uber is brand name. Bad WLB, a**hole coworkers, brutal competition for perf and promo are the cons at Uber.
Wow, thank you very much for your thorough reply! No master, undergrad, but I had 4-5 internships with fortune 100 companies so that might've helped... I also come from a no-name college so I wasn't in a target school. I guess they just all started being competitive for new grad as this is the standard New Grad offer for both. TC-wise the vesting schedule for Uber is 35/30/20/15 so it's TC 200k, 175k, 164k and 158k for the 4 years. And since I can get promoted to L4 in a year the TC jump is better than L4 at Twitter. I don't get why you say that promotion is faster at Twitter, I heard that (with concrete proofs) as long as you get Exceeded Expectations each promo cycle from new grad, you can get promoted to L5 in 3 years or so... I also value brand name and prestige (and I think that's how I managed to get such offers) so Uber is the clear winner for that. How brutal is the competition for perf? Do they have quota per teams for promotions? (Before manager of course) I heard that bad WLB is really team dependent, my org was Marketplace, how bad is it overall if you know?
Yes, you can become L5 in 3-3.5 years at uber, but it's very difficult/rare. And even if you do, L5B promotion takes years. Twitter on the other hand, is a literal promotion factory. Everyone gets promoted there quickly. Based on analysis of my friends' profiles on LinkedIn. Also, you can't get promoted with exceeds rating at uber. You need outstanding. Perf is brutal. I don't know how to quantify it. They don't really have per team quota, but you'll have to be your managers' favorite and compete at your org. In each org, there are quotas for promotion. Org means headed by a director. Also, there are perf quotas and a bell curve. Most people get meets expectations rating only. Bad WLB is always team dependant in all companies. But best in Uber might be close to avg WLB at Twitter. They literally don't launch many features. I don't know much about your org.
Uber will turn around once the pandemic dies down
Why didn't they become profitable before Covid then?
Uber’s blind is more 🔥 than twitters loolll
Have you worked at both? 👀 Care to give some insights? Ahah
